The clear surface coating on the bracelet portion of the Silver Heart Bracelet contains lead in excess of the allowable limit, posing a chemical hazard. The clear surface coating on the clasp and pendants of the Sweet Charm Necklace contains lead in excess of the allowable limit, posing a chemical hazard. Under the Surface Coating Materials Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act , it is illegal to import, advertise or sell articles for children with a surface coating material containing more than 90 mg/kg of lead. Lead is very toxic to children, even at low exposure levels. Children can ingest lead when they chew, suck or swallow jewellery items containing lead which can cause damage to their bodies. Potential health effects associated with exposure to high levels of lead include anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system.  In extreme cases, there have been deaths. Neither Health Canada nor Things Remembered has received any consumer reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of these products. No incidents were reported in the United States.
